ACCEPTABLE USE
What the platform
is not for
Connectivity and messaging are useful to people doing harm as well as to people building products. This page says plainly what is not allowed, how it is detected, and what happens when it is found.
NOT ALLOWED
Four things, without exception
None of these has a threshold or a warning count. They are the boundary rather than a scale.
- Fraud
- Using numbers, messaging or connectivity to deceive people out of money, credentials or identity, including impersonating a bank, a service or a person.
- Unsolicited messaging
- Sending to people who have not asked, at any volume, whether or not the local rules technically permit it.
- Interception and surveillance
- Using the platform to intercept, monitor or locate people without their knowledge and a lawful basis.
- Evasion
- Disguising traffic to defeat the controls, filters or regulations of a network, a jurisdiction or this platform.
HOW IT IS FOUND
Detected by the platform, not by complaint alone
The same metering that counts what a profile uses is what sees the patterns in it.
- Traffic patterns
- Fraud controls run on the usage records the platform already holds, rather than on a separate system that has to be asked.
- Reports
- From networks, from regulators, from recipients and from you. Each is investigated rather than filed.
- Your own controls
- Usage controls can stop a resource at a ceiling, which limits the damage a compromised integration can do before anyone notices.
WHAT HAPPENS
Proportionate, and explained
We would rather fix a problem with a customer than lose one, and we would rather lose one than carry harm.
- We tell you
- With what we have seen, so you can look at it rather than guess.
- We may suspend the resource
- The specific profile, number or key involved, rather than the account, where that contains it.
- We may suspend the account
- Where the harm is ongoing and narrower action will not stop it.
- We report where required
- To networks and regulators where the law requires it, and we will tell you when we have.
QUESTIONS
Acceptable use on Telyne
What counts as unsolicited messaging?
Sending to people who have not asked to hear from you, at any volume. Local rules vary and some permit more than others; this policy does not, because the recipient's experience is the same either way.
Will you suspend my whole account for one bad resource?
Not if suspending the resource contains it. The first action is to tell you, the second is to stop the specific profile, number or key involved, and account-level action is for harm that is ongoing and cannot be contained more narrowly.
How would you know?
Fraud controls run on the usage records the platform already holds for metering, so unusual patterns are visible without a separate system. Reports from networks, regulators and recipients are investigated rather than filed.
What if my customer is the one misusing it?
Tell us and we will deal with it together. Your usage controls can stop a resource at a ceiling, which limits what a compromised or malicious end customer can do before either of us notices.
Do you report to regulators?
Where the law requires it, yes, and we will tell you that we have, rather than leaving you to find out from somebody else.
